Rafael Medina

Based in Providence, Rhode Island, I am a Dominican American street photographer focusing on documenting my hometown. Since 2017, my work has been a visual love letter to Providence and this journey led to my self-published photobook, Dear PVD (2021), and the 2024 zine Out Of My Jurisdiction, which explores my work out of Rhode Island.

Beyond the streets, I specialize in event and portrait photography. My event work is where my connection to the community became stronger through capturing the free spirit of Providence in real time. I’ve had the privilege of working with Trinity Rep, Providence Tourism, Newport Jazz Festival, Stay Silent, PVD Fest and a diverse range of originations across Rhode Island. Alongside my close friends Jared Winslow and Tyler Palmer, I run the street photography collective SESSIONS, where we host monthly photowalks and community building events.
